In Bollywood cinema there were such movies that were not successful when released due to long run time, lack of drama, entire comedy movie, few had received positive response of critics but not of audience, such movies were considered way ahead of it's time. When right time came then movies were hit and successful and considered as cult classics.
- Mera Naam Joker
Released on December 18, 1970 starring Raj Kapoor, Simi Garewal, Manoj Kumar, Rishi Kapoor, Dharmendra, Dara Singh. The film is story of clown and 3 main phases of life of clown. the film was not successful when released. The Running time of film was 255 mins (around 4h. 15m). An abridged (shorter) version of film was released in the 1980's and it was successful at the box office. Film experts has labelled it as a 'misunderstood masterpiece'.

- Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro
Released on 12 August 1983 starring main cast as Naseeruddin Shah, Ravi Baswani, Om Puri, Pankaj Kapur, Satish Shah, Satish Kaushik, Bhakti Barve and Neena Gupta The film with dark humour and satire was not successful when released, but after 27 years it is considered as a cult classic.

Released on 11 April 1994 starring Salman Khan, Aamir Khan, Raveena Tandon, Karisma Kapoor Paresh Rawal.the film was flop when released.but in few years, it has achieved a cult classic status. Dialogue and character of the movie are immensely likeable here are few dialogue that are still in mind of many people like "Teja main hu. Mark Idhar hai", " Crime Master Gogo, Mogambo ka Bhatija"

Released on 4 february 1972 starring Ashok Kumar, Meena Kumari, Raaj Kumar ,Veena, Nadira, D.K. Sapru. The film is story of a tawaif. How tawaifs are treated nd their life with different view was shown in this movie,the movie was flop when released. But became a success after Meena Kumari's death.

Released on 15 August 1975 starring Dharmendra, Sanjeev Kumar,Hema Malini, Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bhaduri, Amjad Khan. It is story of The two thieves and the retired policeman. The policeman takes help of thieves to capture Gabbar Singh(villan). The movie was flo when released, But with in month it gained success and it was 1st movie of india which crossed silver jubilee.

Released on 29 july 1981 starring Amitabh Bachchan, Shashi Kapoor, Jaya Bachchan, Rekha, Sanjeev Kumar, Kulbhushan Kharbanda. It story of two independent brothers and their life, how tragedies come in their life. The movie was flop when released, but after some time it was considered as classic by audience.

Released on 2 january 1959 starring Waheeda Rehman, Guru Dutt, Baby Naaz, Mahmood, Johnny Walker. Kaagaz Ke Phool was ranked at #160 among the 'greatest films of all time' by critics and directors in 2002. The film was flop when released, but afterwards it gained status of classic movie.

The movie was successful at box office. After few years it is named as claasic. The famous dialog of this movie is 'Pura naam, Vijay Dinanath Chauhan, baap ka naam, Dinanath Chauhan, maa ka naam, Suhasini Chauhan, gaon Mandwa, umar chhattis saal'

Released on 10 september 2003 Starring Irfan Khan, Tabu, Pankaj Kapoor, Om Puri, Naseeruddin Shah. The film is based on William Shakespeare's book Macbeth addition underworld track. Movie was flop when released . but critics gave it positive review, as specially acting of 'Pankaj Kapur'.
